Huntelaar Makes Madrid Move

Klaas Jan Huntelaar, the prolific Ajax and Holland striker has completed a move to Real Madrid.

The Ajax captain passed a medical this week, thus sealing a 27 million euro deal, that will see him move to Real when the transfer window opens on January 1. The striker, who was this week presented with the number 19 shirt by Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano, scored 79 goals in 97 games for Ajax.

The Dutchman (right) will have some way to go to secure a similarly impressive strike-rate in La Liga, but is keen to prove himself in a league that he himself admits has more quality than the Eredivisie.

“It is true that the Spanish league is at a slightly higher level than the Dutch one, but I will have to grow with it and will be alongside better players.

“It is something that that I will have to work on and that I think I will be able to do.

He joins fellow compatriots Wesley Sneijder, Rafa van der Vaart, Arjen Robben, Roysten Drenthe and Ruud Van Nistelrooy at the Bernabeu and has been keen to stress that he is not a direct replacement for the injured Real striker.

“Van Nistelrooy is a fantastic player but I am a different type of player, and will do what I can to score as many goals as possible.

“Everything has happened very quickly. I was going to come at the end of the season but because of the injuries it was brought forward.”
